Overview

Phoenix is Sanctuary AI's general-purpose humanoid built for dexterous manual labor in automotive, manufacturing, and logistics. Its standout is fine manipulation: hydraulically actuated 20-DoF hands with tactile fingertips that demonstrate zero-shot in-hand object reorientation. It is run by Carbon, Sanctuary's cognitive software platform combining piloted learning, reinforcement learning, and language models.

Capabilities

  • Industry-leading 20-DoF hands with proprietary hydraulic actuation and haptic touch sensing for fine, in-hand manipulation
  • Carbon cognitive architecture pairs piloted learning, reinforcement learning, and LLMs for task reasoning and natural-language interaction
  • Demonstrated zero-shot in-hand manipulation, autonomously reorienting objects it was not trained on
  • Taught via VR and motion-capture telepresence, so operators pilot tasks while the AI learns from human movement
  • Validated in a Canadian Tire retail pilot covering 110 distinct store tasks
